Arrival Sofia – Afternoon city tour – Folkshow dinner – Nightlife in Sofia
Arrival at Sofia Airport and transfer to the hotel in the city center.
After the check in procedures we meet with the local guide and start the city tour of Sofia. The tour will include the most important sites of Sofia, such as Alexander Nevski Cathedral, which the biggest one in Bulgaria, the Holy Synod, St. Sophia Church, National Gallery for Foreign Art, National Library, National Palace of Culture, Borisova Garden, Eagle’s Bridge, Council of Ministers, Banya Bashi Mosque, St. Nedelya – an old metropolitan church, and the National Assembly Square.
A welcome dinner will be organized in a local restaurant, with traditional menu and live folkshow performance, where you can learn to dance some of the basic steps of the Bulgarian dance.
After dinner, we can continue the evening through the pubs and clubs of the city, to enjoy the music and try some local rakia (the typical alcoholic Balkan drink)
Overnight in Sofia.
Sofia – Hiking to Vitosha Mountain and Boyana Waterfall – Sofia (10 hrs)
A full day active program hiking in Vitosha Nature Park, the oldest Nature Park on the Balkan Peninsula.
The park offers amazing landscape, a rich and diverse flora fauna, deep forests, subalpine meadows, and interesting birdwatching spots.
Hiking through the mountain we visit Boyana Waterfall, which with its height of 25 meters, is the highest waterfall in the mountain in Bulgaria.
We enjoy a picnic lunch in the nature. Evening in Sofia, with time in the SPA center of the hotel to relax from the hiking trip. Dinner and overnight in Sofia.
Wine Tasting and visit of Rila Monastery
Morning transfer towards Boboshevo village on Struma River, only 75km from Sofia. The architecture and the murals of Virgin Mary church and the St. Dimitar monastery church are among the best preserved art of Bulgarian Medieval Orthodoxy.
We enter the monastery, before continuing our drive towards Medi Valley Winery in the small village of Smotschewo, at the southwest foot hills of Rila Mountain.
The valley offers breathtaking views to Kalin peak (2668m). We enjoy walking through the vineyards and trying different types of wines and snacks.
After the wine tasting and lunch we transfer to Rila Monastery, the biggest and most important symbol of Bulgarian Orthodox church. The Monastery has been founded in the 10-th century and rebuilt in 13-th and 14-th centuries. It is one of Europe’s oldest and included in UNESCO’S list in 1983. Behind the 20 meters walls lie impressive monastery buildings, a church and a chapel with valuable murals.
Visit of the monastery and afternoon return to Sofia.
Dinner tonight will be organized in a local restaurant, with a special performance of bare foot fire dance.
Cultural Activities – Return Flight
This morning we will spend time in Sofia, before the transfer to the airport for the return flight.
Depending on the available time, we can take a drums lesson session, visit the Museum of Illusions, or spend the morning dancing swing!
